Checklist of Etiquette in Business



Specific areas of etiquette to be observed in the workplace:

  • Always be polite. Being polite and courteous shows that you are a better person.

  • Keep your voice down. When you speak loudly it raises the stress levels amongst those around you.

  • Never use bad language. Swearing is a big no-no because it is not only crude by impolite.

  • Control your temper. If you lose your temper you are showing everyone that you cannot control your emotions.

  • Never interrupt. Let people finish what they are saying and listen to them.

  • Do not ogle. Ogling someone is the equivalent of aggression and you don’t want to intimidate people.

  • Respect your elders. You should always respect others as you would like them to respect you. For example, the younger people should respect their elder in every situation.

  • Watch spitting. Never spit. A lot of men especially do this subconsciously and this is very crude and not very nice to see.

  • Wait for everyone to be seated. If you are sitting down for a meal, always wait until all the guests are properly seated and ready to commence the meal before starting.
