FURNITURE - Buy and set out Office Furniture

Ways to Buy Office Furniture
There are 2 ways to buy office furniture:

  1. As standard completed units, which are ready made up and ready to use
  2. As custom made furniture, designed to exactly match the needs of your business.

Ready-made furniture is a lot cheaper than custom made and can be bought quickly and easily from the various furniture companies. Custom made furniture needs to be designed exactly to meet the needs of your business. This means ideally that the manufacturer should call into your offices and measure up.

Most small businesses don’t need custom made furniture, unless there is a specific purpose, because there is no need to go into that type of expense. It should only happen where a particular area needs a special or odd-shaped desk, etc to be fitted. It will also happen where you may want a specially designed piece of furniture to convey a professional image.

  1. Desks: Desks come in all sorts of shapes and sizes so make sure you find one to suit your purpose and that fits well where you want it to go. Make sure the furniture is comfortable because your employees will be using it for long periods. Make sure also that the desk is the right height for the employee, allowing them to use the drawers or the keyboard comfortably. It is good to get the employee to try out the desk before buying. It is an advantage for the desk to be adjustable so that if the employee leaves it can be adjusted to suit the new person.

  2. Shelving: Your business will need shelving or storage units to store books, information, CDs etc. The type of shelving you buy will depend on the space you have available, as well as your budget. For example, pine is cheaper than other woods. This may not be a factor because most desks are covered with a veneer.

  3. Chairs: Buying the right chair is very important for you and your employees. Remember, chairs will be used for many hours a day, so must be comfortable and supportive. Chairs should be ergonomically correct, because without a healthy posture health problems can arise. You may have to look for chairs with adjustments for height, with arm support and with high backs.

The more comfortable your employees are, the more productive they should be. The cost you outlay on chairs will be paid back many times if the chairs are good. If your employees use computers, then it is critical that you have the right type of chair, because they will be working at the computers all day.
