What is the Internet?
The Internet is a worldwide network of computers, which, link together and in so doing provide information and communication etc to all those linked. The Internet is made up of the total of millions and millions of computers used by businesses, people, schools, universities, organisations, government, military etc – all dotted around the globe.

They are all connected or linked to each other thus providing a means of communication with each other globally.

All kinds of networks, whether business, schools, individuals, universities, government, military, libraries, or public organisations are linked 24 hours a day every day of the year via the Internet. Every computer that is connected to the Internet has its own individual address called an IP address (internet protocol address) and all computers connected use a common language called transport control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP). Every computer on the Internet recognises each address and this enables them to communicate with each other.
