How Do you - Secure Listing from the Business Owne
a) Classes of Brokers
There are 2 classes of business brokers.
- The first group are the brokers who are happy to sell all types of businesses. They have the experience and confidence to be able to assess, adapt to and market “whatever comes”.
- The second group prefer to specialise. They concentrate on a particular industry or business type (e.g. News agencies) or a selected group of businesses (eg manufacturing, engineering, construction or retail, wholesale, services, professional). By specializing, they become expert in that field with all the advantages that generates.
This group has to be careful they do not limit themselves too much. Top opportunities may present themselves outside of the chosen range so it’s easy to miss opportunities that could easily have been handled. On the other hand, the first group needs to watch that they do not “spread themselves too thin”.
Trying to cover the full spectrum of broking may be like trying to be a jack of all trades – and master of none. It is common sense to seek listings within a broker’s range of experience, knowledge and capabilities. But then s...
