Using a Successful Formula
Franchising is really about replicating a successful business format. This involves putting the successful systems and procedures that a business has developed over the years into a workable operation manual and passed on to others. Whoever joins the franchise must operate their business exactly as set out in the manual.
Because of the higher chance of success, it is a safer option for someone starting out for the first time because they just need to follow the tried and tested path developed by the franchisor to guarantee success.
The franchisor would have dispensed with procedures and systems that had not worked and would have fine tuned those that do. In this way, mistakes would have been eliminated and systems and methods tested which is what the new franchisee is paying for.
A franchise relationship that works is similar to a partnership. It brings together the talents of the new business owner with the experience, knowledge and track record of the franchisor. The popular saying is that with a franchise you are in business for yourself but not by yourself.
