Before you finalise the purchase of a business you will need to examine the documentation, financial records, and other paperwork, especially legal agreements.

You will need to look at the following:

  • All financial records
  • All staff records
  • Customer database
  • Premises and the lease
  • Patents and trademarks etc
  • Insurance policies
  • Licences and permits
  • Stocktake
  • Schedule of assets, including valuations
  • List of suppliers
  • Schedule of all products and services offered
  • Details in the lease agreements
  • Franchise agreements, if any
  • Marketing systems and methods
  • Any outstanding legal issues
  • Advertisements, sales brochures, product packaging etc
